Sartorius muscle strain – case study
The following article describes the symptoms and treatment methods given to a BKS player in the case of Sartorius muscle strain.
Player:
Age : 21 years old
Height : 182 cm
Position: quarterback
Description of the injury:
During the volleyball training, the player felt strong pain in the right thigh.
Diagnostic test:
Functional tests as well as ultrasound examination confirmed the injury – Sartorius muscle strain – right thigh.
Ultrasound examination:
Ultrasound examination – Sartorius muscle strain
Medical examination description:
“Ultrasonography of the right thigh tissues: Visible incomplete disruption of the tailoring muscle in the area of 21×5 mm with partial constriction of the proximal end of the muscle – the image as after almost complete muscle rupture. Insertion of thigh adductors without pathological features. There is no exudate in the hip joint and in the ilio-lumbar bursa. 2nd image.”
Treatment and rehabilitation:
After diagnosis, the player was subjected to treatments and methods of comprehensive physiotherapy, such as:
- Functional training
- Manual therapy
- Clavitherapy
- Algonix
- Functional massage of the Sartorius muscle
- Cross-massage
- Physiotherapy
Manual therapy:
Clavitherapy:
Physiotherapy:
The parameters applied during the therapy will be presented below. Devices manufactured by ASTAR company, PhysioGo 701I and Polaris HPs units were used.
Laser therapy treatments within a period of time – 22.09.18 – 05.10.18:
First stage:
Therapy duration | 22.09.2018 – 30.09.2018 |
Applicator type | cluster /4xIR |
Dose | 6 J/cm2 |
Power | 100% |
Duty factor | 75% |
Frequency | 2Hz |
Second stage :
Therapy duration | 01.10.18- 05.10.18 |
Applicator type | cluster / 4xIR + 5xR |
Dose[IR/R] | 7 J/cm2/2 J/cm2 |
Power[IR/R] | 100%/100% |
Duty factor[IR/R] | 50%/50% |
Frequency[IR/R] | 2 Hz/2 Hz |
High power laser therapy – Polaris HP
Therapy duration | 22.09.2018 – 5.10.2018 |
Wavelength | 808/980 nm |
Power[808/980] | 5,0/5,5 W |
Mode[808/980] | Pulse mode |
Duty factor [808/980] | 40%/20% |
Dose [808/980] | 30 J/cm2/15 J/cm2 |
Frequency[808/980] | 3000 Hz/3.500 Hz |
USG check-up:
After 12 days of intensive rehabilitation, the ultrasound examination was again performed, which proved a significant health improvement:
“Ultrasonography of the right thigh tissues:
In the Sartorius muscle, visible scar-fibrous lesions in the area of 20×5 mm are visible at the lesion site. Insertion of the adductor muscles of the thighs without pathological features. There is no exudate in the hip and in the ilio-lumbar bursa. 4th image.”
Ultrasound examination – Sartorius muscle strain – comprehensive therapy effect
Therapy results:
Functional test – increased range of motion, decreased pain sensation in jumping and squatting exercises. The player returned to train.
Conclusions:
Intensive rehabilitation, based on the ASTAR devices application – LLLT cluster laser applicator , high-power laser therapy unit Polaris HP – has significantly accelerated the regeneration of injured Sartorius muscle. Estimated treatment time – 4 weeks. Effective treatments allowed the player to return back to game after 2.5 weeks.
